WHY BECOME A MEMBER?
BENEFITS OF BECOMING A MEMBER
Each member is entitled to vote or express their opinion on all matters raised by the committee or other members and to offer their own ideas and suggestions. Members are asked to get involved when possible, in helping with organising and running events, giving them a sense of community and making new friends. Members receive reduced rates for social events. The social events are all family centred and you can walk there. No taxis or babysitters required.
BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY
We are a voluntarily run, non-denominational, non-political, non-racist and all inclusive association. We are a voice for the neighbourhood, campaigning for local causes; currently the local housing project issues, a proper bus service to Canterbury for Garlinge and the Community Centre project; and chasing TDC & KCC when road repairs, litter clean-ups and weed clearances are needed. We liaise with councillors and Police regarding local issues; speeding cars, inconsiderate parking, etc. We provide social activities; befriend older residents and anyone feeling in need of a purpose or company in their lives.
In order to run the events and meetings we need to have funds. The very modest sum of £3.00 per annum per member or £5 per annum per couple is within most peoples’ financial capacity and really can make a difference. We also raise funds through our events, so your support is vital, and through local funding schemes for bigger events and issues.
If you care about Garlinge and want to be part of improving your local area, please sign up using the interactive application form by clicking here.
You will be most welcome.
